How Long do Cosmetic Dental Procedures take to Complete?

Sciota, Pennsylvania

Many people who consider cosmetic dental procedures are curious about how long it will take for their desired result to be achieved. The answer to that question depends on the needed treatment and the severity of the case to be addressed. But our Sciota cosmetic dentist has narrowed down the average time for our most requested cosmetic procedures. Read on for more.

Professional teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is our most popular cosmetic treatment, and it’s also one of the quickest and simplest ones to complete. We can drastically whiten and brighten your smile in as little as one hour in our office.

Porcelain veneers

Dental veneers are thin, durable shells made of porcelain that adhere to the surface of the teeth to cover flaws and imperfections such as chips, breaks, fractures, gaps in teeth and slightly crooked teeth. This usually takes two to three visits to our cosmetic dentist office in Sciota, starting with a consultation and comprehensive oral exam. Next, we will take digital impressions of your teeth and bite and prepare the tooth or teeth being treated by scraping off a small amount of enamel. After determining the perfect shape, size, color and margins to produce a replica cover of your tooth, we will send the information to an off-site dental lab. Before bonding, we will make any needed adjustments to the veneer. Finally, we will bond each veneer with a composite material cured with a special light. While the process may take a few weeks altogether, the results, with proper care, will last for many years.

Dental bonding

Dental bonding is another relatively quick cosmetic procedure that addresses minor imperfections such as chips, cracks or gaps in the teeth. The process involves our dentist applying a tooth-colored composite resin to the affected tooth and sculpting it into the desired shape. Bonding usually takes under an hour per tooth. While bonding can provide immediate results, the longevity of the treatment may vary, with touch-ups or replacements likely needed over time.

Orthodontic treatment

We recommend either traditional metal braces or clear aligners like Invisalign to address crooked teeth and bite issues. The duration of these treatments will vary based on the complexity of the case and which treatment we use. While some cases may take Invisalign only six months to correct, most people expect to wear braces for two years or more. Either orthodontic treatment will require periodic adjustments and progress checks at our office.
