Questions about All-on-4

Sciota, Pennsylvania

What can we help you with today?

The all-on-4 implant systems is commonly called teeth in a day because you can get a whole new set of teeth in one day. If you’re in need of a permanent tooth replacement option and don’t want to resort to dentures, then all-on-4 may be right for you. Below are answers to the most commonly asked questions about teeth in a day.

This procedure utilizes four implants placed into the frontal jawbone, which is denser than the jawbone in the back of the mouth. Then, a single custom-made unit of replacement teeth is permanently attached to the implants. Since the restoration is permanently attached, you never have to worry about taking them out to clean them or that they will shift or move while eating or speaking.

Yes! The entire process may take a couple of visits, but we don’t remove your damaged teeth until the day we are ready to place the implants and restorations. At the first appointment, we take impressions, x-rays, and digital images that are used by the lab to make your restorations. We’ll order your implants as well. Once everything is ready, you return for the next appointment, where you’ll get the final results before you leave.

Adults with complete tooth loss, those that have many badly damaged teeth that need to be extracted, or if you are a denture wearer, may be candidates for teeth in a day. In many cases, patients with tooth loss have jawbone deterioration, which makes them ineligible for traditional single implants, or they may find that wearing dentures is difficult with minimal jawbone support. However, those patients are usually good candidates for teeth in a day.

Your mouth will likely feel sore and achy for a few days or longer. You may experience some mild swelling as well. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers to help reduce discomfort and apply ice packs to your face for 15-20 minute increments to help reduce swelling in the first 24 hours. Patients often find that eating a diet of soft foods for the first few weeks is more comfortable. You can slowly introduce other foods as you are ready.

Taking care of your oral health after teeth in a day is the same as you would care for your natural teeth. Prepare to brush and floss daily, and you’ll still need to see the dentist twice a year for checkups. During these visits, we monitor your jawbone and gum health to ensure you are not developing any gum disease that could compromise the implant’s stability.

Results from this procedure should last many years, if not the rest of your life, with proper care and maintenance. However, if the porcelain on the replacement teeth chips or breaks, you may need it repaired or replaced. Reduce the risk of this happening by not using your teeth to tear open packages, and avoid biting pens, pencils, and fingernails, which could damage the porcelain.
